The Silence Index exists to make employer behaviour visible without making applicants visible. That tension runs through everything below, and where the two pull against each other, the applicant wins.

What we collect

Your account. If you sign up with an email address, we store that address. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and the name on your Google account, and nothing else. We never receive your Google password.

Your applications. For each job you log, we store the company name, the role as you entered it, the date you applied, the current status, the date of the employer's first response if there was one, the job posting link if you provided one, the job title as published by the employer, and the date you last confirmed the application was still unanswered.

Nothing else. We do not ask for your CV, your salary, your address, your date of birth, or anything about your protected characteristics. We do not run advertising trackers and we do not sell anything to anyone.

Where it is stored

If you are not signed in, your list lives only in your own browser, under the keys ghostline.applications.v1 and ghostline.contribute.v1. It never leaves your device, and clearing your browser data deletes it permanently. We cannot recover it for you, because we never had it.

If you are signed in, your list is stored in our database, hosted by Supabase. Access is enforced at the database level: the rules are written so that a request authenticated as you can read and write only your own rows. The site is hosted by Vercel, and account emails such as sign-up confirmations and password resets are sent through Resend.

What reaches the public index

Contributing is a choice you make, and it is off unless you turn it on. If you never turn it on, none of your records are used in any published figure.

If you do turn it on, what gets published is an aggregate about the employer — how many applications were answered, how many went unanswered, how long replies took. Your name, your email address and the role you entered are not published, and are not shared with the employer or anyone else.

A company page only shows response rates once enough separate people have confirmed outcomes for that company. Below that threshold the page says how many reports exist and nothing about what happened in them. This is deliberate: with two or three reports, a published rate is close to naming the people who filed them.

Job-level figures are not published at all yet, for the same reason at a smaller scale.

What you can do

You can edit or delete any application from your list at any time, and a deleted application is removed from the figures.

You can turn contributing off, which withdraws all of your records from the published aggregates.

You can ask us to delete your account and everything attached to it by writing to the address below. We will do it, and we will not ask you to justify the request.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect or what gets published, the date at the top changes and the change is described here rather than slipped in quietly.
